His Eminence Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche (a highly realized meditation master and abbot of Chagdud Gonpa monastery, established in 1131) first came to teach in Anchorage in January 1989. A small dedicated group of students continued with the practice of Red Tara, supported by teachings of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche and other Chagdud Gonpa lamas who returned on a regular basis until the formation of the Chagdud Tromge Ling Center in 1996. Tromge Ling is the Anchorage branch of Chagdud Gonpa Foundation providing continued instruction in the tradition of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism.
We are sustained solely by sangha members, donors, and volunteers. The richness of these teachings continue to be maintained by weekly group practices, study groups, and classes. We also continue to host visiting lamas who offer teachings to the public and more in-depth teachings within the context of weekend retreats in a simple urban setting. Tromge Ling has created a modest library of Buddhist reading material, audio tapes, and CD’s. We have a small store of Buddhist practice supplies, a shrine-room for practice, and a comfortable yoga studio space available for rent.
